One of the best ways of exploring Ladakh is to trek here. With an unending list of short treks Ladakh can rightly boast of long and strenuous treks of up to a month and more. These treks are laid with varied experiences and adventures. The breath-taking views of the Himalayan landscape with its rich variety of engendered wild-life, crossing ridges and rivers alike and camping in wilderness are only the beginning of a life-long journey in terms of personal experiences. What effects these treks have deep within, is something very intimate and priceless.
The western region, particularly Zanskar, offers a variety of routes across the world’s highest mountain peaks, through some of the most deserted and isolated valleys of the great Himalayan ranges. To the east of Ladakh, the mountain peaks are not as sharp, but they make up in altitude, ranging up to 6400m. There you will find Nomads and rare animal and bird species that inhabit the lush green highland plateaus. These plateaus are also home to some of the most breath-taking lakes. The serenity and the calm blue belie the might of this region.
As for the shorter treks, they are more focussed on giving a local experience of cultural insight and sharing the life of the Ladakhi people, farming with them, cooking, milking the cows and absorbing their silent simple life, where you will have the beautiful opportunity to stay at home and share their warm hearth and stories.
